We're fully migrated to EX2007 SP1 - and one of my cleanup tasks is getting rid of Public Folders that are no longer needed. I've been able to move/add/change/delete all necessary PFs except the old, default "Internet Newsgroups" PF that we've never even used. I get a somewhat cryptic error when trying to delete it via the UI; deletion fails via command shell as well: --------------------------------------------------------Microsoft Exchange Error--------------------------------------------------------Action 'Remove' could not be performed on object 'Internet Newsgroups'. Are we the only three people experiencing this issue? I get the same type of error when trying to delete the legacy "Internet Newsgroups" Public Folder.

I ended up using ADSI edit to remove the offending item.... Not pretty but it worked. Exchange 2007 + server 2008 doesnt seem quite ready yet.

I actually opened a case with Microsoft, and the resolution was that there is currently NOT a supported method to remove this folder - at least in my Exchange 2007 only environment. A workaround to alleviate anyclient confusionis to "hide" the folder by changing its permissions which I've done; so as the Exchange admin I can still it still hanging around - but at least none of my clients can :-) For me it's really a cosmetic issue - not a functional one - so I don't want to travel down the ADSIEdit road either- at least not now!

Wel,, it seems as if this one folder is preventing me from uninstalling Exchange 2007 from the test server. We just rolled out the final production server, and now can't uninstall the test, so this server is still present in the organization.

Have you moved all your PF's to the final production server, including this one (even though you don't want it)? Once all PF's are on the new server & any replicas removed from the test... you should be able to uninstall. I've gone thru a steady stream of EX2007 test/trial installations & uninstallations... and so far this folder hasn't been an issue (even though I can't get rid of it for good ). HTH ~ SW

I havea Win2003Srv with exchange2003 and tried adding a Windows Server 2008 and Exchange 2007 Member server for a trial, made the fatal mistake of trying a 32 bit version, so it needed to be removed. In following the MS instructions, I had removed all replications fromPF's and came across this error. Now, I do not want to move the PF's to the production server, as they are already present. I am left with this last folder and exchange simply refuses to uninstall with it there. Does anyone have the keys that need removing for ADSIEdit? I havnt been given any alternatives that work yet...

Hello, i've succesfully removed the public folder database without the need of adsiedit in a test 32bit environment with exchange 2007 sp1 migrated from an exchange 2003 SP2. I had same problems as yours with internet newsgroups. No way to remove then.I followed this steps: OAB not published to public folders All clients connected are already Oultook 2007 Only exchange 2007 SP1 servers All PF DB Replication set to none. All Exchange 2007 + WindowsServer 2003 SP2 updates installed. I removed all PF i can with powershell, without taking care of errors.When highlighted PF database and click to remove, it just removed it without any complains (besides the OL2007 client only warning).I'm waiting 2-3 days to check logs and let you know what happens.EDIT (23 Feb. 2009):It's more than a week. No errors, all ok. :)

Playerkiller - you, sir, are the man...I had been fighting with this to resolve this and retire an Exchange 2007 instance that needed to be removed. After turning of PF DB replication and I had already completed all of the steps that you mentioned & I had used the following in the Exchange Management Consoleto clear all of the replicas on the server:Get-PublicFolder -Server SERVERNAME "\" -Recurse -ResultSize:Unlimited | Remove-PublicFolder -Server SERVERNAME -Recurse -ErrorAction:SilentlyContinue Get-PublicFolder -Server SERVERNAME "\Non_Ipm_Subtree" -Recurse -ResultSize:Unlimited | Remove-PublicFolder -Server SERVERNAME -Recurse -ErrorAction:SilentlyContinueThat cleared up all of the replicas, but left me with IPM_SUBTREE and \Internet Newsgroups - so I had been scratching my head.Your comment of "When highlighted PF database and click to remove, it just removed it without any complaints" was the last piece of info I needed.Thanks so much!

I found this on another website (wish I could say it was my work but it wasn't). The paths for ADSIEDIT may be useful to some. This worked for me - and uninstall then ran properly. I had to use ADSI edit tool to remove a couple entries which allowed me to fully uninstall my last exchange 2007 role "Mailbox Role". Here are the steps I took: Installed Support Tools on my Exchange 2007 Server. Opened up the Configuration portion of my domain Went to CN=Services --> CN=Microsoft Exchange --> CN="my domain" --> CN=Administrative Groups --> CN=Exchange Administrative Group --> CN=Servers --> CN="my server name" --> CN=InformationStore I then Removed the entire folder relating to my public folders. I then refreshed my public folder management console and that newsgroup folder was gone. I was then able to uninstall Exchange 2007. Thanks, Ian Man
